Gail DeversGail Devers, Olympic Champion and Gold Medalist in athletics says “Keep your dream alive” Gail achieved her success against many odds as she battled a strong physical condition.

This is Part One of a series of 6 articles:
Gail made a statement that is now being recorded under the heading “famous quotes” where she reveals 6 keys that she attributes to her success as an Olympic Champion. It is always good to learn from those who have already achieved the success that we are pursuing in our lives.

Gail Devers achieved much despite her battle with a serious thyroid condition that hindered her performance. She clearly has a strong faith in God.

After being taken off of the track in agonizing pain, she was still able to make the following comment from the medical room where she had been taken:

The lesson I learned is you have to be tough, you set a goal and you keep that dream alive. (Reported by New York Times journalist Liz Robbins, Summer 2004).

Here Gail reveals the the first key to her the success she achieved against all so many odds.

David faces GoliathHave you ever wondered how David could have had the courage and faith to face Goliath when all the army of Israel were trembling in their boots (or sandals)?

When we read the story in 1 Samuel Chapter 17 we find that David did not even think twice when he heard the threats of this giant.

He was not going to allow this brute to intimidate the army of his God!

So just what ARE the secrets of David’s faith?

I see three top secrets:

1. David could not be distracted.
His focus was so strongly fixed on:

I forgive youIn the last article we considered the positive power of memories.

It can be encouraging, uplifting and simply a joy to recall those wonderful experiences in our lives, or even the more difficult ones as we recall the victories that followed.

Memories are not for wishing:

We all have memories, some good and some not so good right?

The other day when I saw one of these little Mini Coupers parked near a mall area I was visiting, I could not help but remember my Grandfather.

No, he did not own a Mini Couper, but he did consider it. The only problem was Grandad was over 6ft tall and rather broad boned. He got into a brand new Mini to test drive it and got stuck!

Of course we all laughed when we found out about it.

And of course, every time I see a Mini (which is not all that often here in Texas) it brings back a happy memory to my mind.

Yes, that is how our brain works.

Daniel's LionsOver the years I have so often noticed a confusion in the lives of many people as to what faith really is. Some seem to think that if you actually speak out a problem you lack faith. Yes I have been around people like that!

The idea behind this is you “cannot even mention anything negative because you attract it”. No, no.

Real faith is bold enough and has the courage to face facts square on and still be able to say “but God”. In other words, real faith can say “I don’t care how big the problem, God is bigger!”

Remember David? Did he for a moment minimize the strength, power and size of Goliath? Not at all! He knew that he David was no match for Goliath.
