Personal Development God's Way - Part 1
Personal Development God's Way - Part 2

Very recently I was sent a link to a video that I found amazing. The story you will see will challenge you and encourage you to realize that:

  • You are unique.
  • You have dreams and desires in your heart that God has placed there.
  • You cannot help but receive a harvest when you sow into the lives of others. One of God’s absolute laws in His creation is: “whatever you sow, you WILL reap”.

This video is a demonstration of what can happen when you remain faithful to do what is in your hand to do.

It is also a demonstration of the outstanding truth that God WILL make a way. He will NEVER put a desire in your heart to do something without opening up an opportunity for you to do it.

I KNOW this is true. How am I so sure? It has happened in my life.

Remember that the prophet Jeremiah was called to do the impossible (see post Called to Do The Impossible). At least it was impossible for him. When God appeared to him saying that He had called him to be a prophet to the nations, Jeremiah’s response was:

“Ah, Sovereign LORD I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.” (Jeremiah 1:6)

History reveals that he was probably quite young, but here he was focusing on his inadequacy more than on his age. His age was an excuse. He was simply saying “What? It’s too big for me, I can’t do that”.

I remember being called into my boss’s office after I had submitted my resignation in the Education Board of New Zealand.

Chapter 2: The Beginning
If you have not read the first chapter of this series you might want to look it over before continuing here: A Dream Comes True

Boys At El Rancho Dining As I mentioned in the first chapter, one of the things I noticed during my first months in Mexico was the lack of Christian literature available for children (this was in 1977). At the time I was helping oversee a dormitory in a boy’s orphanage near Monterrey.

At Christmas we went into the city to look for some books to give the boys for Christmas and were horrified to find there was so little to choose from.

I always had the publishing side of missionary work on my heart.

Most youngsters grow up with dreams of what they want to do and where they want to go when they grow up. What was your dream when you were little? I am sure you had a least one. Perhaps you had several during the course of your childhood.

One of my dreams was to work in the Disney Studios. I used to love Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and especially liked drawing them.

A Slight Change of Course

Then during my late teens I got involved in an organization called “Youth For Christ” where we enjoyed many fun activities as well as being constantly challenged by youth pastors and missionaries. It was not long before I discovered the direction I felt my life was to go in. It was to be Latin America. A few years later though a course of events which I will reveal in at another time I found myself in Mexico near the end of 1976.

Many of my friends in Mexico tell me that I am more mexican than the chile. (Maybe it is because I like chile). The truth is I love Mexico and since I have spent close to half my life there, it is natural that it has become like home to me.

In fact most of my friends down there are more than friends, they are family.

First Impressions: I first went down to Cuernavaca in 1977, as part of a team of 3, sent by a children’s magazine (Bread For Children) I was with at the time.

I had already traveled to Mexico City (known as D.F. or Distrito Federal) by bus, so I was a little familiar with the city. However driving was another thing. Especially back in 1977!
